We also provide the necessary manpower and equipment to execute the chosen solution in our contracting role from start to finish and our monitoring / maintenance post works.
Our Techniques
We have developed a number of techniques to deal with Japanese Knotweed and we specialise in methods that reduce the amount of material to be sent off site which saves our clients money.
| Dig Sift and Burial | ![]() |
This method provides an instant solution to the majority of our clients by not only saving them money but also cleansing areas of the site to allow construction to commence early. In essence, the Japanese Knotweed is excavated prior to a treatment process which separates the Rhizomes (roots) from the soil. The clean soil is then buried on site and the Rhizomes are sent off site or incinerated. |
|
| Herbicide Treatment | ![]() |
Herbicide treatment consists of a combination of selected chemicals applied to Japanese Knotweed foliage. This treatment is effective but does take a number of years to take affect and may not be suitable for development projects due to residual root systems that remain in the ground. |
|
| Dig and Dump | ![]() |
This method is as it says, ‘Dig and Dump’, all material is excavated and removed from site in it's entirety. Due to the expense of landfill charges and taxes this method is commonly the most costly of all treatment options. |
|
| Partial Excavation | ![]() |
| Partial excavation limits the amount of material to be removed from the area by inserting a root barrier membrane. The membrane is inserted at a shallow depth of excavation and stops re-growth penetrating structures or surfaces that are built above the barrier. | |
| Stockpile | ![]() |
If you have a suitable area within your site you can excavate the Japanese Knotweed from the area of impact and relocate it within the site to allow construction to continue. The Japanese Knotweed is then stockpiled and treated with a herbicide programme to deal with the contamination. Due to off site disposal costs this can be a very economical option. |
