The LK Group are thrilled to announce that we have been shortlisted as sustainability finalists in that category at the Ground Engineering Awards 2023 for our work at Collyhurst Village. With record entries this year, the initial judging process to whittle down the entries was tough so to be sustainability finalists in the category is an outstanding achievement.

Entrants for the Sustainability category had to demonstrate an innovative, unusual or cutting-edge approach to environmental, economic or social sustainability on a geotechnical project.

We were appointed to undertake the ground investigation and land remediation for Collyhurst Village by Far East Consortium and Manchester City Council. This project is the first phase of Victoria North, the North of England’s largest urban regeneration project, set to create 15,000 new homes over the next 20 years.

When working on this project, our overriding objectives were to design a remediation strategy and earthworks specification using our robust site investigation for the reuse of materials or existing structures and foundations, innovation in the redevelopment of this brownfield site, and the use of technology and design to reduce carbon emissions. By informing this design, The LK Group achieved sustainable development through significant value engineering and recycling of materials.

The Ground Engineering Awards will be held on the 12th of July at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House and brings together leaders in the industry to celebrate achievements in terms of projects, people and business, between January 2022 and January 2023.

Wish us luck!
