Introduction

LK Pollution Response Limited offers a wide range of services tailored to suit all our clients needs. Our experienced staff will discuss your needs and recommend the best options available to you. We provide many varied management services:

Invasive Weed Surveys and Management Plans:

LK Pollution Response's Botanical and Ecological experts can survey land to be used for any purpose. They will provide a detailed map of any invasive plants on site and give experienced recommendations on the most practical and cost effective methods of treating or removing the invasive plants.

Deciding on which management plan is best for a specific situation can depend on a lot of different variables: the type of plant, amount of time available, space on site and, probably most importantly, cost. LK Pollution Response's staff are experienced and can give advice and solutions in any scenario.

Manual Removal/Cutting:

Some Invasive Plants such as Himalayan Balsam and Ragwort can be managed through timely cutting without the need for herbicides or excavation.

Herbicide Treatments:

In many cases herbicide treatment will be the most cost effective method of treatment. LK Pollution Response experienced and fully trained staff has successfully eradicated many invasive species through on-going herbicide applications. These include Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed, Himalayan Balsam, Rhododendron and many more. LK Pollution Response staff always complies fully with The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986.

Root Barrier Membranes

Root Barrier Membranes, also known as Geo-textile Membranes, are a way of physically protecting a structure or clean soil. Root Barriers can be used in a variety of ways: cell formation, protecting structures and hard surfaces, preventing horizontal spread and protecting services. Removal through Excavation

Often time constraints on site developments mean that the only option is to remove invasive plant material by excavation. There are a variety of methods that can be applied depending on your site requirements:

  • Cell Formation: This involves excavating the invasive plant material and using a Root Barrier Membrane to encapsulate the soil and plant material and burying on site.
  • Burial Method: This is very similar to the above method, the only difference being that you don’t encapsulate the material but use a Root Barrier Membrane placed on top of the material and burying it under a number of metres of clean fill (Environment Agency recommendation 5m).
  • Dig and Dump: If time is short and there is no where to bury the Invasive Plant Material onsite it may be necessary to dig the material and literally dump it at a licensed landfill. It is a quick solution but can often be very expensive.
  • Dig, Sift and Burial Method: Again this involves excavating the invasive weed material but instead of immediately burying it we mechanically and manually sift through the soil to remove all plant material. The plant material is then incinerated. The soil can then be buried at only a depth of 1m of clean fill. This dramatically reduces the cost of dig and dump and is a lot more cost effective than other methods.
  • Stockpiling/Bund Method: If there is no space to bury the material where it was excavated it is sometimes possible to create a stockpile or Bund of material elsewhere on site. This is a way of ‘buying time’ to treat the Invasive Plant Material with herbicides.
