The LK Group has successfully completed enabling works in the historic Medieval Quarter of Manchester, one of the oldest areas in the city, in view of the magnificent Manchester Cathedral.
We carried out ground and water investigations to establish the locations of services and other underground features within this public realm site. Working closely with archaeologists, an archaeological working brief was maintained throughout due to the potential presence of historic artefacts. We carried out soakaway tests and used specialist vacuum extraction techniques to safely extract soil and stone, uncovering an intriguing piece of Manchester history with every dig, including cobbled streets and old tram tracks.
Importantly, we were able to maintain public access to the footpaths within our site, to avoid unnecessary disruption in this bustling part of the city. Finally, The LK Group reinstated the highway tarmac and Yorkshire flagstones to a very high standard.
