History of Practice - Introduction

Leyden Kirby Associates was formed in April 1998, as a partnership, providing advice and project management in process based remedial systems for contaminated land.

The Partnership was involved in Soil Washing and advanced treatment of metaliferous contamination by Specific Gravity Separation, and in the remediation Project Management of former Coalfields Site in the Northeast of England.

In 2001 the Partners took the decision to enlarge the practice and to expand into the full range of services of an Environmental Consultancy.

Initially, the Practice was involved in the technical appraisal of environmental liabilities in relation to Land and Property, particularly;

Environmental Liability Assessments (Phases I & II)
Contaminated Land Site Investigations
Human Health Risk Assessments
Remediation Design
Remediation Programme Management

During 2001 and 2002 the Practice continued to expand and added further specialisms to the portfolio:

Formation of limited company

In 2003 the founding partners took the decision to convert the business into a Limited Company. Leyden Kirby Associates Ltd was incorporated in June 2003 and commenced trading in October 2003. The Company activities were expanded to encompass:

Utility Appraisal and Accreditation

Reorganisation

The LK Group has been structured so that its services are offered through specialist subsidiary companies that respond quickly to the requirements of their clients. This service-based structure has been completed by the establishment of LK Consult Limited, to provide the group's Contaminated Land and Flood Risk Services, and LK Assure Limited, to provide the group's asbestos surveying and removal management services.

Group Directors

Patrick Leyden

Patrick Leyden is Group Chairman. Patrick was a Director of a company producing generators, including the generation of power from waste. He has 50 years of entrepreneurial experience in the instigation of development projects and the acquisition of finance to facilitate projects. He has substantial experience in business development and in the establishment of partnering organisations.

Dr Scott Elliott

(Dr.) Scott Elliott is Group Managing Director. Scott is an authority in contaminated land issues, experienced in the appraisal of contaminated land sites including desk studies, site investigations and risk assessments. In his previous position, Scott was involved with a Local Authority Grouping in the development of contaminated land inspection strategies.

Philip Kirby

Philip Kirby is the Group Company Secretary. Philip was Chief Engineer for a major local authority and an Urban Development Corporation. This was followed by a period as Technical Director for the Land Remediation Division of one of the UK’s largest Consultancies

Martin Clapperton

Martin Clapperton is Group Financial Director, a Chartered Accountant and former Group Planning and Analysis Manager of Mirror Group Plc and Divisional Controller at Laporte Plc. He moved into the SME Sector in 2000, setting up a Business Services Department within a North West chartered accountancy practice before setting up his own consultancy business in 2003.

Clair Leyden

Clair Leyden manages the Asbestos Survey function of the Group. Formerly Managing Director of Cornerstar Design Company Ltd, Clair has 20 years experience working on product and brand development in the fashion sector, sourcing and importing clothing from the Far East and Eastern Europe and marketing to the major, commercial high street brands.

Conor Leyden

Conor Leyden manages LK Management Limited and LK Pollution Response Limited. He is a qualified Building Surveyor and Project Manager who has worked in the project and construction management industry for the past 10 years. Since qualifying he has worked as a Project Manager in the UK, with a large construction consultancy and in 2005 joined a leading Project Management company in Sydney, Australia. Conor has a gained a broad experience in project management, program co-ordination, project feasibility, due diligence, contract procurement, administration and design team management. He has experience in various sectors including commercial, industrial, transport and residential, including Public Authority works.
